In a perfect world, a farming operation would run smoothly from start to finish without any hiccups. However, it is no secret that there are times when events may arise that are simply out of our control. In efforts to help us prepare for those unexpected events, DCB Farming’s Equipment Manager, Cody Luis, has shared 5 Ag Tips for keeping your farming operation running like the well-oiled machine you want!
1. MAKE A CHECK LIST: Get your day started on the right foot by creating a checklist first thing in the morning! My list always includes what equipment is being used, the status of fluid and oil checks, the inspection of machines for any worn parts, and ensuring that all of the bearings have been properly greased.
2. SERVICE YOUR EQUIPMENT REGULARLY: It is vital to the longevity of your equipment to always routinely service your tractors and equipment! Think of it as a doctor’s appointment, but for your machinery. The health of the equipment can help save you time and money on repairs in the future.
3. KEEP SPARE PARTS HANDY: Having spare parts in stock for your machines can save you time in the event of a breakdown or if an unforeseen issue arises with your machine. 4. MONITOR FIELD CONDITIONS: Making a habit of checking your fields before bringing in equipment could be beneficial for your farming operations. Observing and ensuring that the field is smooth and in the best possible condition for the work you are doing can make all the difference!
4. BE AWARE OF SURROUNDINGS: It is important to be aware of surrounding roads, houses, water ways, and property boundaries. We wouldn’t want a pesticide application to drift onto another farmer’s crops or a busy road! Your safety and the safety of others should always be a high priority.
